📐 Pipe Weight Formula

W = π/4 × (OD² − ID²) × L × ρ

OD = Outer Diameter · ID = Inner Diameter · L = Length in meters · ρ = Material Density in kg/m³

How to Calculate Pipe Weight?

Pipe weight calculation uses the mathematical volume of a hollow cylinder: Weight = π/4 × (OD² − ID²) × Length × Density. Here, OD is the Outer Diameter and ID is the Inner Diameter (which equals OD minus twice the wall thickness).

For example, a 2-inch (60.3mm OD) Schedule 40 pipe in Mild Steel with a 3.91mm wall thickness weighs approximately 5.44 kg per meter. For a standard 6-meter commercial length, the total weight is about 32.64 kg.
